Dear
ALATA
Members,
As you
may know
the
Alabama
Board of
Athletic
Trainers’
acts as
the
governing
body of
athletic
trainers
across
the
state
and
serves
to
protect
and
preserve
our
ability
to
practice
our
profession
in the
state.
It is
with
that
intention
that HB
565,
which
currently
exists
as our
Practice
Act with
proposed
language
amendments,
has been
introduced
into the
Legislature
and
currently
stands
in the
House
Health
Committee.
By now
you may
have
already
heard
that the
Bill has
been met
with
some
opposition
due to
the
proposed
amended
language.
Please
understand
that by
the
proposed
language
amendments
it is
not the
intent
of the
Board
nor of
the
Association
to
broaden
our
scope of
practice;
but to
strengthen
the laws
that
currently
allows
us to
work in
the
settings
that we
are
currently
employed.
It is
also the
intent
of the
current
proposed
amendments
to allow
us as a
profession
to not
be
prejudiced
as to
the
location
where
the
injury
occurred
but to
be able
to treat
the
injury
based on
the
pathology
of the
injury
as we
have
been
trained
and
certified
to do
so.
In this
eBlast
you will
find a
letter
along
with the
names of
the
House
Health
Committee
Members.
I am
challenging
each
member
of the
state to
please
view
this
list,
print
and sign
the
attached
letter
and send
it to
the
Representative
for your
district.
It is
extremely
important
that you
act
immediately.
This is
extremely
time
sensitive
and I am
urging
you as
members
to
contact
colleagues
and urge
them to
do the
same. I
promise
as
President
of the
Association
to do
what I
can to
continue
to
strengthen
and
protect
our
profession
here in
the
state,
therefore
I
implore
upon you
for your
help. I
thank
each and
every
one of
you in
advance
for your
time and
diligence
in this
matter;
and
should
have any
questions
or
comments
please
do not
hesitate
to
contact
me in my
office
at (205)
939-6932.
Sincerely,
Heloise
Belarmino
Jones,
